Sept 26, Exeter Water Street Books Banned Book Night! 7 PM - 10 PM The 2017 Banned Book Night This event will be the 6th annual presentation of readings by local celebrities focusing on the freedom to read, freedom from censorship, and Constitutionally protected freedom of speech. This year's readers include: Brendan Dubois, will read from Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451; Courtney Marshall, English instructor at Phillips Exeter Academy, will read from Stephen King’s Carrie; Jonathan Ring, will read from George Orwell’s 1984; Lisa Bunker, will read from Madeleine Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time; and Roger Goun, , will read from Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. A Phillips Exeter Academy student will be added to the readers’ roster when the Fall term begins. Devon Chaffee, Executive Director of ACLU-NH will describe for the audience the value of highlighting freedom of speech in difficult political times. The event, which is free and open to the public, is invited to participate in discussion following the readings.
